FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
A few helpful pointers before you book — so you and baby arrive feeling prepared.
Do I need to book the zhuazhou ceremony in advance?
Yes — advance booking is required so we can arrange your shoot slot. We suggest starting to plan when baby is around 6–8 months old.
If a slot shows as fully booked, does that mean I can't register?
A "fully booked" label means every slot for that day is taken and no other times are available. Please pick another day with open availability.
My preferred date is full — can I join a waitlist?
We don't offer a waitlist at the moment. Last-minute cancellations are usually because a baby suddenly isn't feeling well — these are genuinely "last-minute" situations, and by the time the store is notified there's no time to reach a waitlisted family. We recommend discussing other available dates with your family first and booking one of those. After booking you can keep checking the system: if someone reschedules, the released slot will reappear, and you can call the store to switch to your preferred date.
What ages is zhuazhou for? Can babies older than 1 still join?
We recommend the zhuazhou ceremony for babies between 8 months and 1 year 8 months old. Children over 2 years old are not eligible for this package.
Do the outfits come in different sizes?
Yes, all outfits come in sizes. For specific sizing questions, please message us with chest / waist / hip measurements. *Because height varies widely for school-age children, if anyone in your family is taller than 120 cm, please let us know in advance so we can confirm sizing.
What's the difference between the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean styles?
The main differences are the outfits and the set. The flow follows each culture's traditions, with small variations (e.g. carrying the issho-mochi rice cake in the Japanese style, stepping on red-tortoise cake in the Chinese style, sipping seaweed soup in the Korean style). The core "zhuazhou" grabbing ritual itself is the same across all three styles.
Where can I see outfit examples online?
On Facebook, you can browse our shared photos in the Xiaocun Riwa fan page albums, or search the hashtag "#小村日和" to see plenty of photos shared by other parents. Each style has around ten outfits available — but because they're regularly cleaned and dry-cleaned, the actual selection on the day is whatever's on-site.
I haven't decided on a style yet — can I book first and decide on the day?
To keep the shoot flow and store scheduling smooth, the style must be chosen in advance — it can't be decided on the day or swapped at the last minute on-site.
The package is NT$2,880 — why was I only charged NT$900 when I booked?
NT$900 is the deposit. The balance and any extras (e.g. additional family members joining, add-on items, etc.) are simply paid on-site on the day of the zhuazhou ceremony.
Can I pay the balance by card at the store?
Yes — cash and card are both accepted (VISA / MasterCard / JCB).
How are additional family members charged if they want to attend and be in photos?
The package already includes two adults and one baby. Each additional family member is NT$300 per person, which covers attendance, outfit rental, and being in the photos.
Is there a limit on how many people can attend?
To protect shoot quality and keep baby comfortable in the zhuazhou space, we recommend keeping the total group to around 6 people. With larger groups, babies tend to get more unsettled, distracted, or upset — which can affect both the ritual and the photos.
If I cancel, can I get my deposit back?
1. To protect both parties, we collect a NT$900 deposit at booking. Once the deposit is paid and your booking is confirmed, we hold that style and time slot exclusively for your family on that day. After booking you can postpone, reschedule, or transfer to someone else, but the shoot must be completed within 120 days of the original booking date. 2. To cancel and request a refund, you must call the store at least 14 days before the zhuazhou date (counting from the ceremony day). 30% of the deposit is kept as an administrative fee and the remainder is refunded. Cancellations after that deadline are non-refundable. *Example: for a 1/20 booking, the latest cancellation date is 1/6, with NT$630 refunded (30% admin fee deducted); cancelling on 1/7 is non-refundable. 3. To complete the refund, the applicant must submit a copy of their bank passbook cover (emailed to our designated address) and complete the online credit-note process. Funds are remitted to the designated account within 14 business days.
Which stores offer the initiation ceremony?
All 5 of our stores across Taiwan offer the service, and each store specializes in different styles. Tap through to each for full details! New Taipei – Yonghe: Japanese Taipei – Zhongzheng: Chinese Hsinchu – Zhubei: Chinese / Korean Taichung – Xitun: Japanese / Chinese / Korean Kaohsiung – Lixin: Japanese / Chinese / Korean
How do I book if I have two children?
The initiation ceremony is currently designed for one child. If you have two children, book two packages in back-to-back slots and ask the photographer to capture group shots of the children together for richer photos!
Do parents need to be in the photos? Can adults change outfits too?
After the child's ritual photos are done, we invite both parents to join the family portrait. The initiation ceremony package already includes outfit-changing service for the family of three!
How much does a twin zhuazhou cost? How do I book?
For twin zhuazhou, please book two packages (the two babies' shoot dates must be within one month of each other), and add a "twins" note when registering. List price is NT$2,880 × 2 = NT$5,760.
Are there special twin discounts for the zhuazhou ceremony?
If you're booking a twin zhuazhou and meet the conditions below, you qualify for a dedicated discount: [Scenario 1] First shoot booked at the "online promotional price" of NT$2,180 — the second shoot qualifies for the returning-customer price of NT$1,980, plus a NT$500 twins product credit. [Scenario 2] First shoot booked through "group booking" at NT$1,980 — the second shoot qualifies for the returning-customer price of NT$1,980, plus a NT$500 twins product credit. [Scenario 3] First shoot at the "returning-customer" price of NT$1,980 — comes with an extra NT$100 product credit; the second shoot also qualifies for the returning-customer price of NT$1,980, plus a NT$500 twins product credit. *The product credit can only be applied to "add-on items beyond the zhuazhou package" — such as albums, photo retouching, etc. (it cannot be applied to family attendance or in-frame outfit changes). It cannot be exchanged for cash or change, must be used in full on-site on the shoot day, and cannot be used later.
How is in-frame outfit-change charged for twin zhuazhou family members?
Booking two packages for twins means each baby goes through their own zhuazhou ritual. If the other twin appears in the frame during the main baby's shoot, a single in-frame outfit-change fee of NT$300 is charged. If the second shoot is "at the same store", the in-frame fee for the twin baby is waived. (The same rule applies to other family members: anyone attending both sessions has the in-frame fee waived on the second shoot.)
How is observer attendance charged for twin zhuazhou family members?
Booking two packages for twins means each baby goes through their own zhuazhou ritual. Each additional observer is NT$100 per person. If the second shoot is "at the same store", repeat attendees are exempt from the observer fee.
